The weight of the massive boilers was the biggest challenge in this project. It required a high level of coordination between the system designs and the unique balancing requirements of the rigs. In order to effectively overcome this issue, EJS project teams managed the rigging outside of business hours, successfully lifting the equipment 11 stories high to reach the building’s rooftop. Relocating equipment to the roof opened up the significant amount of space occupied by the mechanical equipment room, which can now be further used for healthcare.
The St. Luke’s project took 6 months of design and coordination, and another 6 months to build. EJS helped deliver a solution that provides efficient heating without sacrificing the footprint of the hospital and completed the work within the $5 million budget.
