When Southside Hospital (now renamed South Shore University Hospital) was undergoing a major upgrade adding a two-story Women and Infants Center to its complex, they required a number of air handling units to serve its spaces. Working closely with AKF, SourceBlue and Haakon Industries, we provided 3 custom air handling units ranging from 14,000 CFM to 50,000CFM. Considering the hospital setting, we designed all AHUs with a focus on sound level, reliability and IAQ through our selection of modular direct drive plenum fans, MERV-14 filters, humidifiers and other crucial components.
Partnering with Epsilon Industries, we also provided one of the AHUs with a pre-piped steam vestibule. The prefabricated vestibule reduced the amount of complex steam piping that had to be installed in the field and helped to expedite the project schedule by delivering a quality product, ready to be started within days of installation! Both the client and us enjoyed the ease and simplicity of Epsilon’s design as we estimated that this prefabrication approach saved us 4-6 weeks of site work.
